After around 10,500 athletes participated in 302 events in 26 sports, USA finished first on the leaderboard of the 2012 London Olympics with 104 medals followed in second place by China and in 3rd by host country Great Britain. Of the 204 participating countries/territories, 85 received at least one medal and 54 won at least one gold medal. Grenada won its first Olympic gold medal while Bahrain, Botswana, Cyprus, Gabon, Guatemala, and Montenegro each won its first Olympic medal ever.
